Produced by Hrithik's father Rakesh Roshan, Kaabil stars Hrithik and Yami Gautam as a blind couple, voice-over artist Rohan and talented pianist Supriya, who are deeply in love.
Pakistani actress Mahira Khan plays the criminal kingpin's wife and Zeeshan Ayyub, Atul Kulkarni, Sheeba Chadda and Uday Tikekar round out the cast. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is Jaideep, an honest cop who vows to eliminate crime and Raees’ empire. Shah Rukh plays a ruthless bootlegger in prohibition-era Gujarat in the 1980s in the film co-produced by SRK's Red Chillies Entertainment and Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment. The father son-duo of Rakesh and Hrithik and Sanjay felt that Yami Gautam is best suited for the role of Supriya Bhatnagar.Analyst Ramesh Bala cites three plausible reasons: Shah Rukh is a much bigger star in India and internationally, his movie is generating better word-of-mouth and is performing strongly across multiplexes and single screens, whereas Kaabil's business is concentrated in the cineplexes in the big cities. All the speculations about Kareena Kapoor and Parineti Chopra were declined as rumors by director Sanjay Gupta. Yami is also excited about the movie as she’s the only heroine selected for the role of Supriya Bhatnagar. Now all eyes are set on Yami as she’ll share success of the movie with Hrithik. In her earlier movies, she had to share the credit of success with other female starts. Yami Gautam has done several movies with Ajay Devgan and Varun Dhawan but never got an opportunity to act as a solo-heroine. Yami Gautam who’s playing Supriya Bhatnagar against Hrithik also needs big claps as it is her first movie as a solo female star and that is against a big star that is Hrithik Roshan. No doubt, Hrithik deserves praise if not an award for his portrayal of a blind man. His verbal communication coupled with blind eye contacts is simply overwhelming. He effectively uses his facial features and makes gestures to respond to the surroundings. Hrithik Roshans seems to be seeing and communicating with eyes even when he is portraying a blind man. The story is never told before and the acting of Hrithik Roshan is simply awesome. The blind man faces vengeance from powerful opponents and he fights back with all his might and abilities. Rohan is living happily with Supriya Bhatnagar until a tragedy devastates his life.
